High Desert Life

We spent Thanksgiving in the high desert, between Palm Springs and Joshua Tree... near the LA escape Pioneertown. We usually stay at our favorite, the Sparrows Lodge, in Palm Springs but we were bringing our friend Juna, and she needed some room to roam free, so we found a perfect desert cabin, complete with easy access to the canyons and a hot tub!

The desert gets a little chilly, so I glammed up in this cool weather appropriate outfit for our Thanksgiving dinner... I'm wearing head to almost toe Reverie, rounding out the outfit with a perfect pair of Jimmy Choo's.
I love the accent scarf!

Caught by a gust of wind!

A Weekend Getaway to Bermuda

An escape to a tropical island was just what was needed as winter sets in on the East Coast. Bermuda is a British island territory only two hour flight from New York. Before you know it, Bermuda's turquoise waters and colorful homes revitalizes and transforms you into a relaxing vacation mode. November is the lowest season of the year - the island is quieter and you will see more locals than tourists. The residents are friendly and love to talk about the history and the lifestyle they enjoy on this small, beautiful island.

From the airport, we head to the Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa, tucked away at the edge of the island which include cottage style suites and four secluded private beaches for the ultimate tropical escape. Breakfast and afternoon tea are included with your stay as well as a free shuttle to Dockyard, a town nearby to catch the ferry to the capital. There is a wonderful spa, indoor pool with sauna, croquet and mini golf course.

Our first order of business was enjoying our lunch and banana split with views of this peaceful beach and marina. Boating and Sailing are one of the most popular activities on the island, including hosting the 35th America's Cup next year, with the best sailors competing for the international recognition.

We head to Horseshoe Bay in Southampton on the South coast, the most famous beach in Bermuda and #8 in the world according to TripAdvisor. With its clear turquoise waters and powder white sand, this was the perfect setting to relax. Taxis are the easiest way to get around the island, which can be ordered by your hotel or hailed on the street if you can catch one.

This cove at the edge of Horseshoe Bay was the perfect backdrop for a beach wedding occurring during our visit or just a quiet place to relax and reflect.

The skies are always colorful as well - sunsets and rainbows in Bermuda are stunning.
Below: a view of a small island from our patio, while rainbows can be seen several times a day after quick tropical showers pass through.

We walked around the Naval Dockyard, a 19th century British naval base with beautiful historical buildings. This is also where you can catch the ferry to Hamilton, the capital of Bermuda.
Loving these unexpected London phone booths against the palm tree background.

We head to Hamilton by Ferry, only 20 minutes and a great way to see Bermuda by water.
We roamed the streets and small shops, finding a Picasso mural on a small street.

Small tiled streets are a charming part of Hamilton.

Poetry line these colorful steps down this small street

Another rainbow over Hamilton is the perfect ending of our weekend getaway.

On Trend in Velvet

If you have been shopping at all this Fall, you can't help but notice the velvet trend - velvet is everywhere! The perfect fabric for when it starts to cool down, we picked some of our favorites...

Here I am in a custom purple velvet skirt by Reverie available by special order.

We love the velvet detail on these sheer dresses - on the left, DKNY dress, available at Shopbop and, on the right, Stone Cold Fox at Revolve

For a more casual velvet dress, we love this Greylin tuxedo dress

Match your outfit with a perfect pair of velvet boots, we love these over the knee boots from Stuart Weitzman

These booties in navy from MM6 are another eye catching option

We love Aquazzura's velvet collection. We picked a few favorites, but you can't go wrong with any of them!

Keep the chill away with this casual jacket from Free People or this super cool evergreen bomber from Frame Denim

Velvet is on trend, and so are chokers, so complete your look with a velvet choker! We love this embellished navy choker from Dannijo, or pick a simple one from Nordstrom available in many colors to match your outfit

No outfit is complete without the right bag, and you can't go wrong with this classic YSL velvet bag - in black or red

Melange Mode does Screen Printing!

Last weekend, the Melange Mode team got a chance to get crafty and flex our creative muscles. We had the opportunity to take a free screen printing workshop at Textile Art Center with Tachi Tachi, a innovative printing company started by Hannah Schultz and Anne-Marie Lavigne.

Our class was lead by Hannah, as she talked the introductory class through the basics of techniques, materials and an understanding of stencils and layering.

We loved Hannah's head to toe outfit as well!

We love the overall design of the Textile Art Center, its inspiration around every corner!

 Lets get started!

We start our design on paper using a ruler, then use an X-Acto knife to cut out the stencil.

We selected our paint, taped the stencil into the screen printing frame and laid it out on fabric to test it

We were happy with the test, so we are ready for the real thing! We place the screen frame on our tote bag, lay the paint and use the Squeegee to push the paint onto the bag. We iron it to set the paint and we are done! We love our new tote bags! Thanks Hannah and Textile Arts Center!

Textile Arts Center is located on 26 W 8th St, New York, NY 10011

Whites After Labor Day

Labor Day on the Venice Beach canals in a handmade dress from Bali, for something similar at Nordstrom, click here

Labor Day may be here, but that doesn't mean it's time to put away the whites! Now is a great time to take advantage of Labor Day sales and scoop up some great finds in white... Here are some of my favorites:

This flirty little number is perfect for those late summer nights!

For a transition into Fall, you can wear these minimalist sheaths with black contrasting tights when the weather starts to cool down. For a more glam and edgy version, Alexander Wang's chain detailing takes it up a notch.

And for something more formal, we love this strapless gown.

This sleek vest can be worn with a tank or with a turtleneck for extra layers later.
This little jacket is a fun take on the biker, not as warm as leather, the linen is a nice transitional piece.

Last but not least, for the best steal yet, Belle + Sky has come out with a fun perforated body skimming dress, what a bargain!
